THE STAGES OF THE "EXPERIENCE" OF METHANPHETAMINE
1) The Surge: A surge is the initial response that the consumer feels when smoking or injecting methamphetamine. While the surge is felt, the heart and metabolism of the consumer accelerates, blood pressure and pulse rise. Unlike the surge associated with crack cocaine, which lasts approximately two to five minutes, the accelerator for methamphetamine can continue for up to thirty minutes.
2) The Journey: The wave is followed by a trip, which is sometimes called "the shoulder". During the trip, the consumer often feels aggressively intelligent and starts arguing, often interrupting others and ending sentences for them. Illusory effects can cause the consumer to concentrate intensely on something insignificant, such as cleaning the same window repeatedly for several hours. The trip can last from four to sixteen hours.
3) The Desenfreno: A debauchery is the uncontrolled consumption of a drug or alcohol. It refers to the consumer's impulse to keep the trip smoking or injecting more methamphetamine. The debauchery can last from three to fifteen days. During debauchery, the consumer becomes hyperactive both mentally and physically. Each time the consumer smokes or injects more drugs, he experiences another minor wave until, finally, he no longer experiences waves or travel.
4) Twisting: A methamphetamine consumer is more dangerous when he experiences a phase of addiction called "twisting": a condition that is reached at the end of a drug debacle when methamphetamine no longer provides a surge or a trip. Unable to alleviate the frightening feelings of emptiness and anxiety, the consumer loses his sense of identity. It is common an intense itch, and the consumer can get to be convinced that there are insects crawling underneath his skin. By not falling asleep for several days in a row, the consumer is often in a completely psychotic state and he lives in his own world, seeing and hearing things that no one else can perceive. His hallucinations are so vivid that they seem real and, disconnected from reality, he can become hostile and dangerous to himself and others. The chances of mutilating yourself are very high.
5) The Collapse: For a consumer of debauchery, collapse occurs when the body is "turned off" by being unable to handle the effects of the drug thus overwhelming the body and this results in a long period of sleep for the person. Even the most cruel and violent consumer appears to be almost lifeless during the collapse. The collapse can last from 1 to 3 days.
6) Methamphetamine Hangover: After the collapse, the consumer returns in a deteriorated, hungry, dehydrated state and totally exhausted physically, mentally and emotionally. This stage usually lasts from two to fourteen days. This leads to a forced addiction, since the "solution" for these sensations is to consume more methamphetamine.
7) Withdrawal: It can often take between thirty and ninety days after the drug is consumed for the last time before the consumer realizes that he is on withdrawal. First, he becomes depressed, loses his energy and the ability to experience pleasure. Then comes the anxiety of taking more methamphetamine, and the consumer often becomes suicidal. Because the withdrawal of methamphetamine is extremely painful and difficult, most consumers often re-take it; consequently, 93% of those who receive traditional treatment go back to using methamphetamine.
